Friends’ funds boost Broads study centre
A 300-strong army of Friends is helping a Broads environmental study centre with vital equipment.
Over the past year the Friends of How Hill have raised thousands of pounds to buy kit ranging from
lifejackets and buoyancy aids to wet weather clothing for the staff, plus a commercial food mixer
and “green” site signage.
The annual meeting heard the £8,231 raised came from a mix of subscriptions, donations and events
– which included a music recital, and outdoor productions of War of the Worlds and Much Ado
About Nothing by the How Hill regulars The Pantaloons.
Chairman Bruce Moffat said the dramas were enjoyable ways of fundraising which attracted full
houses, and generated membership inquiries.
The Friends also organised a guided Norwich tour, by city guide Paul Dickson, of buildings designed
by the Boardman family who lived at How Hill before it became an education centre in the 1960s.
How Hill director Simon Partridge thanked the Friends for their efforts which made a big difference
to the charity which has been running the centre near Ludham since 1984 – particularly for picking
up the £5000-plus tab for replacing nearly 80 lifejackets for children, adults and staff using How Hill’s
boats.
Upcoming Friends events include a Comedy of Errors by the Pantaloons on Sunday August 13.
Tickets £15 adults, £8.50 children from Jeanne Flett 01692 678560
(mikeandjeanne@btinternet.com).
They are also reviving a craft fair, not held since Covid, on Wednesday October 25. More details
about events, and how to join the Friends, on the How Hill Trust website www.howhilltrust.org.uk

Cartoonish capers in Shakespeare’s funniest farce! Two sets of shipwrecked twins, who lost
their doubles years ago, unknowingly end up in the same place at the same time. Chaos
ensues, but will the searching siblings find each other in the end? Expect silly slapstick,
abundant anachronisms and memorable music nestled amongst Shakespeare’s poignant
poetry as the critically acclaimed. Bring a picnic and something to sit on. Sorry no dogs except assistance dogs.
Pantaloons put their own inimitable spin on this classic
comedy.
