Owl Pellet Dissection
We discuss owls, their ecology and adaptation with help from a taxidermy barn owl and then it’s time for the gruesome bit – into the laboratory for some owl pellet dissection.
Children hunt for bones in the pellets then try to work out what they have found using our identification sheets. We look at teeth and skulls of mice, voles and shrews, and if we’re lucky, there might be the remains of a small bird. Everybody gets the chance to take their bones home in a sealed bag, if they want to.
