What’s on at How Hill 

We have a full calendar of events to support our main charitable purpose as a children’s residential centre.

We are very excited to share our plans with you and are looking forward to welcoming familiar faces and new guests.

We have a diverse range of courses with various dates for your diary.

All our course prices include full board in our en-suite bedrooms, transport during your stay, and any entry costs and/or materials.

We can now offer bed and breakfast for £55 per head following our food nights, so you can enjoy a glass or too without worrying about how to get home (subject to minimum uptake).

Friends of How Hill are entitled to get a 10% reduction on course costs – please ask on booking.

2024

How Hill’s Family Christmas Crafts     Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th December 2024

Cost: £11 per person

Join us for Christmas crafts, biscuit decorating and a mug of hot chocolate!
How Hill House is magical at Christmas with unbeatable views!

Arrive at the main public car park and wander through our house gardens or up the road to How Hill House. You will be greeted at the front door by our lovely staff. There will be a selection of Christmas crafts for you to do as a family including designing your own Christmas cards, creating personalised baubles for your tree, and visiting our biscuit decorating station whilst you enjoy a mug of hot chocolate. After you are free to explore the house gardens at your leisure.
This is a 2-hour ticketed event and is aimed at families with children aged 4 -11.

Evening Meal Events

1970’s Valentines Night   Friday 14th February 2025   Cost: £35 per head

We look forward to seeing swirling patterns of orange and brown, long hair and platform shoes as you enjoy a three course 1970’s themed meal.

 

Moroccan Night   Friday 23rd May 2025    Cost: £35 per head

An evening of Middle Eastern Treats.  Come and join us for 3 courses of typically Moroccan food created in the kitchens of How Hill.

 

Greek Night   Friday 7th November 2025   Cost: £35 per head

Come and join us for flavours of the Mediterranean with a 3-course meal of popular Greek cuisine from our own kitchens.

 

Pudding Evenings   Dates: Friday 21st March 2025 and Friday 28th November 2025     Cost: £25 per head

We have two dates for our ever-popular pudding evenings next year.  Enjoy a savoury course followed by four delightful desserts with voting over tea or coffee at the end.

 

Short Breaks

Late Winter Birds   Friday 21st February to Sunday 23rd February   Cost: £400 per person or £700 for 2 people sharing a room.

A chance to see late wintering birds: possibly Snow Buntings and Geese on the coast, together with divers offshore. A relaxing but informative introduction to the birds of east Norfolk during this exciting time of the year.  We are delighted that a

good friend of How Hill, Su Gough, will be leading this course.

 

Birding for Beginners   Friday 4th April to Sunday 6th April     Cost: £400 per person or £700 for 2 people sharing a room.

Su Gough be joining us again for this weekend. A gentle introduction to the birds of the Broads.  We will be looking at how to identify birds: their behaviour, where they are found, their plumage and we will soon learn some birds by their song! This will weekend will appeal to beginners and those with a little birding experience.

 

 Social History of the Broads   Friday 20th  June to Sunday 22nd June    Cost: £420 per person or £740 for 2 people sharing a room.

A chance to delve into the history of those living and working in the Broads over the last few centuries and the legacies they have left behind.  Visits to museums, expert speakers and a trip on the river – come and enjoy what has made the Broads the place it is today.

 

 Gardens Course   Monday 21st to Thursday 24th July   Cost: £520 per person or £940 for 2 people sharing a room.

Our most popular course is back again. We will be visiting a range of interesting gardens not usually open to the public, with the owners proudly on hand to show us around and answer any questions you may have. All visits include refreshments. All gardens will be new to us!

 

Wherry Course   Friday 1st August  to Thursday 7th August    Cost: £900 per person or £1700 for 2 people sharing a room.

Enjoy a unique exploration of the Northern Broads on two wherries.  We will be sailing from Wroxham on the wherry yacht Norada, under Wroxham Bridge heading to Belaugh. On our way we will stop and enjoy a trip to Aylsham on the Bure Valley Railway. Coltishall is our next stop before returning to Wroxham. We will then journey from How Hill on the pleasure wherry Hathor to Stalham and the Museum of the Broads, followed by a sail to Wayford Bridge and an exploration of the Dilham and North Walsham Canal with a visit to Dilham before returning to How Hill.

 

Churches Course     Monday 18th August to Thursday 21st August   Cost: £520 per person or £940 for 2 people sharing a room.

Norfolk has more round towered churches than any other county and this year we will be visiting only round towered churches! As usual, we will meet a local expert at every church ensuring we get the maximum from each visit.

 

Natural History of the Broads   Friday 22nd August to Sunday 24th August   Cost: £400 per person or £700for 2 people sharing a room.

A chance to discover and learn about the local Broadland flora and fauna. How Hill is an ideal location to see a variety of England’s finest moths and butterflies with a possibility of catching sight of a second brood Swallowtail. We will also be running a moth trap during the weekend. Birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and other invertebrates will not be forgotten. Su Gough will be leading this course.
