Why not Visit How Hill Yourself
How Hill has lots to offer grown-ups and families. Look at our Events & Courses page to find out more about our family events, or our Visitor Information page to find out more about local attractions and walks.

Safety
Your child’s safety is at the forefront of everything we do at How Hill. We have operated as an environmental education centre since 1967 and have the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge meaning all our activities have been thoroughly tested and risk assessed. Schools staying at How Hill have the house and gardens to themselves. All staff have also been DBS checked.
Food and Drink
All our food is freshly prepared in our kitchens at How Hill. We provide schools with a menu of healthy, balanced, and child friendly meal options to choose from. Our head cook is used to catering for special dietary requirements and allergies, if your child has any dietary requirements, please make sure that you inform your teacher or group leader as early as possible. Our kitchen has a 5-star food hygiene rating. We provide regular snack and drink breaks in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bedrooms
Our bedrooms have between 3 and 6 single beds per room and their own ensuite bathroom. All bedrooms have blackout curtains and nightlights are available if needed. All beds have waterproof mattress protector fitted, children will need to bring their own a single fitted sheet, pillow and sleeping bag. If there is a possibility of bedwetting, please tell the teacher or group leader planning your trip know so they can discreetly keep an eye on things.
Clothing
You will be sent our kit list which contains everything your child will need during their stay at How Hill. Please send your child with old clothes as they will get muddy and dirty. Lots of layers are best to keep your child warm. At all times of year children will need wellington boots, a long sleeve jumper and waterproof clothing. In the summer they will need sun hats, sun cream and insect repellent, whilst in winter, they will need a warm hat and gloves.

Spending Money
We have a small gift shop available for children to purchase something to remember their stay at How Hill. Your school or group will tell you if they are planning to visit the shop and how much spending money to bring.
Children with Additional Needs
How Hill is a brilliant place, and we want everyone to have the chance to visit and get involved as much as they can. We will do everything we can to adapt our activities to meet your child’s learning and physical needs. If your child has any additional needs please talk through any concerns you have with your trip leader.
