Friends funds help study centre’s work

How Hill’s Friends group gave £11,674 to the study centre last year to buy equipment vital for its work.

They bought new information signage for the site, lifejackets for educational boat trips, and helped towards replacing rotting boardwalks used for dyke dipping.

Fundraising came from subscriptions from the 300 members, donations, outdoor theatre events and a concert which together brought in a total of £6273.

Chairman Bruce Moffat told the Friends annual meeting they were a “lively group supporting How Hill and its work.” The only disappointment was having to cancel a revived craft fair at the 11th hour due to heavy rainfall and flooding. And they had dipped into their reserves to help the centre with the items it needed.

How Hill Trust chairman Richard Batson thanked the Friends for their support, which was all the more important at a time of rising costs. Centre director Simon Partridge gave an update on its work including a growing number of adult group bookings, including a choir, yoga and spinners and weavers.

The next Friends event is a madcap, slapstick Pantaloons production of The Merry Wives of Windsor on Sunday August 18 at 3pm. Tickets are £15 adults, £9 8-16s, and under 8s free. Bring a picnic and something to sit on.
